What is Fotostax ?
Fotostax is a company founded in 2021 with the aim to cover a gap in the market for high-quality instant prints.
They wanted to revolutionize the way people capture and cherish their experiences.
Fotostax is the only instant printer in the world that can print motion and 3D photos.
The brief
Develop a high-fidelity app design that will serve as the interface for connecting the mobile phone camera
with the printer hardware
Exploring how to build a community to keep users engaged
Evaluate the design with usability tests
Research
We lead 12 one to one research interviews
We talked to photo enthusiasts, hobbyists, nostalgics, creatives…
These interviews helped us to understand when and with what people are taking pictures.
We also found what was their motivation behind taking pictures
Insights

-A Hard copy of a picture is often used as a present, especially for older relatives.
People take pictures to capture and share memories.
“I print photos to gift it to friends or family”
-People use their phone to capture quick pictures. Using an instant camera is a planned action, as every photo requires more thought
“I shoot on my iPhone because of practicality”
-People choose social media and community apps based on what their friends and family use.
-Most of them edit pictures, but not everyone uses advanced options.
“I share photos all day long on Snapchat”
Problem statement
Fotostax needs to offer an original, unique and engaging way to capture and print special moments, so people can use them to reminisce, reflect and share their memories with loved ones.

On the first iteration i made the choice to place the photo mode on the right.
After doing an early user testing i realised that most people didn’t find it intuitive.
On a later iteration i noticed that people were more receptive to the horizontal option.
The camera screen and functions are similar to display that people commonly uses.
